Meet 'Big Lonely Doug' and the many other historic trees that need saving in B.C.
Visiting some of the oldest and biggest trees in all of Canada can be awe-inspiring, but also eye-opening.
The sad truth is about 80% of old-growth forests in British Columbia have been lost to logging, and around 10,000 hectares continue to be logged each year.
A group in the province is fighting hard to get policies and legislature changed to protect the trees. More on their efforts and the crucial environmental role of old-growth forests can be found in my report, above.
