Special Weather Statement

Issued at Sat 5:55 AM Jan. 17
Issued by: Environment and Climate Change Canada
Description

Significant snowfall is expected.

Locations: southwestern, western, central, northeastern, and northern Newfoundland.

Potential snowfall: 15 cm or more.

Time span: early Monday morning until Monday evening.

Remarks: An approaching weather system is expected to bring snow to the region. While there is some uncertainty regarding where the heaviest snowfall will occur, the potential exists for significant accumulations over some areas.

In addition, for parts of northeastern Newfoundland, the snow may change to ice pellets or freezing rain for a period. Over parts of southwestern Newfoundland, a change to rain may occur before the precipitation ends.

Snow accumulations may make travel hazardous. Roads and walkways could become slippery and difficult to navigate. Consider adjusting plans to avoid the most adverse conditions.
