Recommended Action
Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1. Due to the cold, persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing your body heat.

Extreme Cold Warning

Description

What: Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 15 below expected.
Where: Portions of north central and northwest North Carolina, central, south central, southwest, and west central Virginia, and southeast West Virginia.
When: Until 1 PM EST Sunday.
Impacts: The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.

Recommended Action

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
