Extreme Cold Warning

Description

What: For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 2 above expected. For the Wind Advisory, north winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 4 below expected.
Where: In North Carolina, Camden, Chowan, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans Counties. In Virginia, Chesapeake and Suffolk, and Isle of Wight, Newport News, and York Counties.
When: For the Cold Weather Advisory, until 1 AM EST Sunday. For the Wind Advisory, from 7 PM this evening to 1 PM EST Sunday. For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 1 AM to 10 AM EST Sunday.
Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Recommended Action

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.

Coastal Flood Advisory

Description

What: Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
Where: Isle of Wight County, Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and Suffolk.
When: From 7 AM to 3 PM EST Sunday.
Impacts: Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

Recommended Action

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
