Cold Weather Advisory

Issued at Fri 12:11 AM Jan. 30
Issued by: National Weather Service
Description

What: Very cold wind chills as low as 15 to 30 below zero.
Where: Portions of northern New York and central, northeast, northwest, and southern Vermont.
When: Until 11 AM EST Friday.
Impacts: The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.

Recommended Action

To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside. Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing your body heat.
