Description

What: Heat index values up to 109 expected.
Where: In North Carolina, Coastal Brunswick, Coastal New Hanover, Coastal Pender, Inland Brunswick, Inland New Hanover, and Inland Pender Counties. In South Carolina, Central Horry, Coastal Georgetown, Coastal Horry, and Inland Georgetown Counties.
When: From noon to 7 PM EDT Friday.
Impacts: Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

Recommended Action

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Rip Current Statement

Description

What: Dangerous rip currents expected. There is also the threat of a strong south to north longshore current.
Where: Coastal Horry County.
When: From 6 AM EDT Friday through Friday evening.
Impacts: Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

Recommended Action

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
