Description

The combination of drying fine fuels, northwest wind gusts between 25 and 30 mph, and relative humidity values between 25 and 35 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread Sunday afternoon for portions of the mid and upper Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills, Taconics and Greater Capital District regions in eastern New York. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.

Description

What: Temperatures as low as 33 will result in frost formation.
Where: The greater Capital District, mid Hudson Valley and southern Taconics in eastern New York, and Litchfield County in northwest Connecticut.
When: From 11 PM this evening to 9 AM EDT Sunday.
Impacts: Frost and cold temperatures could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.

Recommended Action

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
