THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED TORNADO WATCH 296 IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT TONIGHT FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN NEBRASKA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 18 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL NEBRASKA GREELEY HOWARD MERRICK NANCE SHERMAN VALLEY IN EAST CENTRAL NEBRASKA POLK YORK IN SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA ADAMS BUFFALO CLAY DAWSON FILLMORE GOSPER HALL HAMILTON KEARNEY PHELPS THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF AURORA, CENTRAL CITY, CLAY CENTER, COZAD, EDGAR, ELWOOD, EXETER, FAIRFIELD, FAIRMONT, FULLERTON, GENEVA, GENOA, GOTHENBURG, GRAND ISLAND, GREELEY, HARVARD, HASTINGS, HOLDREGE, JOHNSON LAKE, KEARNEY, LEXINGTON, LITCHFIELD, LOUP CITY, MINDEN, ORD, OSCEOLA, POLK, SCOTIA, SHELBY, SHERMAN RESERVOIR, SPALDING, ST. Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Description

At 752 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 6 miles south of Loup City to near Dannebrog to near Grand Island to near Phillips to near Trumbull to near Glenvil, moving east at 70 mph.
Hazard: 70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

Impact: Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. These severe storms will be near Dannebrog, Farwell, and St. Libory around 800 PM CDT. St. Paul around 805 PM CDT. Gusts of at least 50-60 mph are possible behind the initial surge of wind. This includes Interstate 80 between mile markers 283 and 317.

Recommended Action

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until midnight CDT for south central and central Nebraska. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
