Description

The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Southeastern Cherokee County in southeastern Kansa
S: Jasper County in southwestern Missouri Northern Newton County in southwestern Missouri Until 415 AM CDT. At 1015 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Hazard: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

Impact: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Joplin, Carthage, Baxter Springs, Webb City, Carl Junction, Galena, Oronogo, Carterville, Duquesne, Sarcoxie, Duenweg, Diamond, Leawood, Silver Creek, Shoal Creek Drive, Saginaw, Treece, Loma Linda, Airport Drive, Lowell, Carytown, Fidelity, Redings Mill, Avilla, Grand Falls Plaza, La Russell, Brooklyn Heights, Shoal Creek Estates, Reeds, Dennis Acres, Cliff Village, Atlas, Oakland Park, Iron Gates, Maple Grove, Riverton and Dudenville.

Recommended Action

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Many flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
