THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED TORNADO WATCH 3 UNTIL 10 AM CST THIS MORNING WHICH REPLACES A PORTION OF TORNADO WATCH 2. THE NEW WATCH IS VALID FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN MISSISSIPPI THE NEW WATCH INCLUDES 13 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI SCOTT SMITH IN EAST CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI CLARKE JASPER LAUDERDALE NEWTON IN SOUTH CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI JEFFERSON DAVIS LAWRENCE MARION IN SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI COVINGTON FORREST JONES LAMAR THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF BASSFIELD, BAY SPRINGS, COLLINS, COLUMBIA, CONEHATTA, DECATUR, FOREST, HATTIESBURG, HEIDELBERG, LAUREL, LUMBERTON, MERIDIAN, MONTICELLO, MORTON, MOUNT OLIVE, NEW HEBRON, NEWTON, PRENTISS, PURVIS, QUITMAN, RALEIGH, SHUBUTA, STONEWALL, TAYLORSVILLE, UNION, AND WEST HATTIESBURG.

Flood Watch

Description

What: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Where: Portions of central, east central, south central, southeast, and southwest Mississippi, including the following areas, in central Mississippi, Copiah, Hinds, Leake, Madison MS, Rankin, Scott, Simpson and Smith. In east central Mississippi, Clarke, Jasper, Kemper, Lauderdale, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee and Winston. In south central Mississippi, Jefferson Davis, Lawrence, Lincoln and Marion. In southeast Mississippi, Covington, Forrest, Jones and Lamar. In southwest Mississippi, Adams, Claiborne, Franklin MS and Jefferson.
When: Until 9 AM CST Saturday.
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.
Additional Details: - An additional 2 to 3 inches of rain could fall within a short period time. Storm totals of 3 to 7 inches are possible. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
