Description

What: Dangerously cold wind chills are expected Friday and Saturday nights. Wind chills in the single digits to lower teens expected Friday night, with single digits expected areawide on Saturday night.
Where: George, Greene, Perry, Stone, and Wayne Counties.
When: From midnight tonight to noon CST Sunday.
Impacts: Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Temperatures this cold can possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Additional Details: This will likely be an extended duration cold event where temperatures fail to make it above freezing Saturday, especially over interior counties near and north of the Highway 84 corridor. Temperatures may remain below freezing for up to 36 hours. Wind chills during the day Saturday may stay in the upper teens to lower 20s areawide.

Recommended Action

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
