SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 261 REMAINS VALID UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN MISSISSIPPI THIS WATCH INCLUDES 19 COUNTIES IN NORTH MISSISSIPPI BENTON CALHOUN CHICKASAW COAHOMA DESOTO ITAWAMBA LAFAYETTE LEE MARSHALL MONROE PANOLA PONTOTOC QUITMAN TALLAHATCHIE TATE TIPPAH TUNICA UNION YALOBUSHA THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ABERDEEN, AMORY, ASHLAND, BATESVILLE, BRUCE, CALHOUN CITY, CHARLESTON, CLARKSDALE, COFFEEVILLE, FULTON, HOLLY SPRINGS, HOUSTON, MARKS, NEW ALBANY, OKOLONA, OLIVE BRANCH, OXFORD, PONTOTOC, RIPLEY MS, SENATOBIA, SOUTHAVEN, TUNICA, TUPELO, AND WATER VALLEY.

Description

At 534 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Marianna, or 12 miles west of Holly Springs, moving southeast at 15 mph.
Hazard: Wind gusts up to 40 mph and nickel size hail.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include Wall Doxey State Park, Red Banks, Laws Hill, Marianna, Waterford, Galena, Wyatte, Watson, Gilton, and Chulahoma. This includes Interstate 22 in Mississipppi between mile markers 20 and 22.

Recommended Action

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 700 PM CDT for northwestern Mississippi.
