Recommended Action
Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trail crossings. If camping at a site along or near the banks of rivers or streams, move away from those locations and seek higher ground. Trails in hilly terrain can quickly become unstable during or shortly after heavy rainfall. Portage and hiking trails may be impassable and low-lying campsites may be inundated with excessive runoff in this section of the Boundary Waters as flooding is occurring or imminent. Report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and to the National Weather Service in Duluth when you can do so safely. Flooding can be reported to the National Weather Service at 1-800-685-8612.

Description

What: Temperatures as low as 29 will result in frost formation.
Where: Koochiching, North Itasca, Central and North St. Louis, Cook and Lake Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation and the Bois Forte Band, Nett Lake, Deer Creek and, Lake Vermilion areas. Other locations including Voyageurs National Park. The entire Boundary Waters is also included.
When: From midnight tonight to 8 AM CDT Sunday.
Impacts: Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.

Recommended Action

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
