Description

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids MI has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Michigan Grand River near Comstock Park affecting Kent County. Grand River at Lansing affecting Ingham County. Grand River at Ionia affecting Ionia County. Red Cedar River At East Lansing affecting Ingham County. Maple River at Maple Rapids affecting Clinton County. Thornapple River Above Hastings affecting Barry County. Buck Creek at Grandville affecting Kent County. Pine River at Alma affecting Gratiot County.
: Forecast flooding changed from Minor to Moderate severity and increased in duration for the following rivers in Michigan Sycamore Creek At Holt affecting Ingham County. .1.5 To 2.5 inches of rain fell last night across much of Lower Michigan. This is in addition to the several inches of rain that have occurred in many spots previously. Additional showers and storms over the next 24 hours could add an additional 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain, making flooding worse.
What: Moderate flooding is forecast.
Where: Sycamore Creek at Holt.
When: Until early Saturday afternoon.
Impacts: At 8.0 feet, Expect minor flooding of low lying areas adjacent to the river, in the Lansing Municipal Golf Course and sections of East Mt. Hope Road.
Additional Details: - At 11:00 AM EDT Wednesday the stage was 8.0 feet. - Bankfull stage is 6.0 feet. - ForecastThe river is expected to rise to a crest of 9.2 feet tomorrow morning. It will then fall below flood stage early Friday afternoon. - Flood stage is 8.0 feet. - Flood HistoryThis crest compares to a previous crest of 9.0 feet on 07/29/2011. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

When: From late tonight to Tuesday afternoon.
Impacts: At 8.5 feet, Minor flooding of farmland, Michigan State University athletic fields, and secondary roads. At 9.0 feet, Jenison Fieldhouse and Intramural Sports Circle on the Michigan State University begin to get impacted by flood water.
Additional Details: - At 11:30 AM EDT Wednesday the stage was 5.6 feet. - Bankfull stage is 6.0 feet. - ForecastThe river is expected to rise above flood stage late tonight to a crest of 9.0 feet early Saturday morning. Description

What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Where: Portions of south central and southwest Michigan, including the following counties, in south central Michigan, Calhoun, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia and Jackson. In southwest Michigan, Allegan, Barry, Kalamazoo, Kent, Ottawa and Van Buren.
When: Through late Thursday night.
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

Recommended Action

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
