Description

What: Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 8 inches. Locally higher amounts possible. Northwest winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
Where: Portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.
When: From 7 AM EST /6 AM CST/ Wednesday to 1 PM EST /noon CST/ Thursday.
Impacts: Roads will become slick and hazardous, with impacts expected for the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Visibilities may drop to near zero at times due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are likely and will make travel treacherous.

Recommended Action

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1. Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary. During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions.
