The National Weather Service in Chicago IL has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Illinoi
S: Des Plaines River near Des Plaines affecting Cook County. Des Plaines River at Lincolnshire affecting Cook and Lake IL Counties. For the Des Plaines Riverincluding Lincolnshire, Des Plaines, River Forest, RiversideModerate flooding is forecast.
What: Moderate flooding is forecast.
Where: Des Plaines River from Townline Road in Libertyville downstream to Palatine Road in Prospect Heights, including the Lincolnshire gauge.
When: From this evening until further notice.
Impacts: At 15.0 feet, Structures threatened along IL-22 (Half-Day Road) just east of the river. Multiple structures threatened near and west of US-45 (Milwaukee Avenue) and Deerfield Road. Deerfield Road threatened near the river. Multiple trails inundated in Half-Day Forest Preserve.
Additional Details: - At 9:45 AM CDT Wednesday the stage was 11.5 feet. - ForecastThe river is expected to rise above flood stage this evening and approach flood stage tomorrow morning. - Flood stage is 12.5 feet. - Flood HistoryThis crest compares to a previous crest of 15.1 feet on 09/14/2019. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
A Flood Warning means water levels above flood stage are imminent or may already be occurring. Persons along rivers and streams in the warned area should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. These forecasts are based on observed precipitation as well as forecast precipitation 24 hours into the future. Changes to the rainfall forecast, or any additional rainfall after 24 hours, may cause changes to these river forecasts. Additional information is available at www.weather.gov. What: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Where: Portions of Illinois, including the following areas, Boone, Central Cook, De Kalb, DuPage, Eastern Will, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, La Salle, Lake IL, Lee, Livingston, McHenry, Northern Cook, Northern Will, Ogle, Southern Cook, Southern Will and Winnebago and northwest Indiana, including the following areas, Jasper, Lake IN, Newton and Porter.
When: Until 1 AM CDT Thursday.
Impacts: Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Roads and streets may be flooded.
Additional Details: - Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected through this evening. Elevated soil moisture due to recent rainfall is expected to increase the susceptibility to flash flooding. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
