THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 301 IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN ILLINOIS THIS WATCH INCLUDES 6 COUNTIES IN NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS BOONE DE KALB LEE OGLE WINNEBAGO IN NORTHEAST ILLINOIS MCHENRY THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ALGONQUIN, BELVIDERE, BYRON, CRYSTAL LAKE, DEKALB, DIXON, MCHENRY, OREGON, ROCHELLE, ROCKFORD, SYCAMORE, AND WOODSTOCK.

Description

At 152 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Lake Summerset to 6 miles southwest of Winnebago to near Oregon, moving northeast at 45 mph.
Hazard: 70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. These severe storms will be near Winnebago, Pecatonica, Lake Summerset, and Durand around 155 PM CDT. Rockford around 200 PM CDT. Rockford Airport and Davis Junction around 205 PM CDT. Loves Park, Machesney Park, Roscoe, South Beloit, and Rockton around 210 PM CDT. Cherry Valley around 215 PM CDT. Other locations impacted by these severe thunderstorms include New Milford, Lake Summerset, Harrison, Shirland, and Seward.

Recommended Action

Prepare immediately for damaging winds and deadly cloud to ground lightning. Seek shelter inside a well-built structure. Stay away from windows.
