Recommended Action
A Flood Watch means water levels above flood stage are possible, but not yet certain, based upon the latest forecasts. Persons along rivers and streams in the watch area should monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to take action should flooding develop. These forecasts are based on observed precipitation as well as forecast precipitation 24 hours into the future. Changes to the rainfall forecast, or any additional rainfall after 24 hours, may cause changes to these river forecasts. Additional information is available at www.weather.gov. The next statement will be issued by late tonight.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Description

At 1131 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Lynwood to University Park to Peotone to 7 miles east of Lakewood Shores, moving east at 40 mph.
Hazard: 60 mph wind gusts.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. These severe storms will be near Chicago Heights, Lansing, Park Forest, Steger, Manteno, Peotone, Sauk Village, Lynwood, Glenwood, and Crete around 1135 PM CDT. Other locations impacted by these severe thunderstorms include East Hazel Crest, Burnham, South Chicago Heights, Wilton Center, and Hegewisch.

Recommended Action

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
