What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Where: Portions of central, east central, southeast, and west central Illinois, including the following counties, in central Illinois, Christian, Menard, Sangamon and Shelby. In east central Illinois, Clark, Coles, Cumberland and Moultrie. In southeast Illinois, Clay, Crawford, Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence and Richland. In west central Illinois, Cass, Morgan, Schuyler and Scott.
When: Through Tuesday morning.
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Additional Details: - Some thunderstorms will produce rain rates of 2+ inches per hour. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
Flood Advisory
What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: A portion of central Illinois, including the following county, Sangamon.
When: Until 945 PM CDT.
Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Additional Details: - At 745 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Springfield, Sherman, Rochester, Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, Illinois State Fairgrounds, Jerome, Southern View, Leland Grove, Grandview, Spaulding and Clear Lake. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
