Extreme Cold Warning
Cold Weather Advisory
What: For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 20 expected. For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 6 above expected. For the Hard Freeze Warning, sub-freezing temperatures as low 18 expected.
Where: Gadsden, Leon, Northern Liberty, and Southern Liberty Counties.
When: For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 4 AM early this morning to 1 PM EST this afternoon. For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 1 PM this afternoon to 1 PM EST Sunday. For the Hard Freeze Warning, from 7 PM this evening to 10 AM EST Sunday.
Impacts: Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Wear protective clothing such as a hat, facemask and heavy gloves or mittens if you have plans to be outdoors. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
