Flood Watch

Description

What: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Where: A portion of central Alabama, including the following counties, Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marengo, Marion, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston.
When: Through Saturday afternoon.
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

Description

At 743 AM CST, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Westover to near Lay Lake to near Chilton County Motor Sports Park to near Paul M Grist State Park. Movement was northeast at 50 mph.
Hazard: Wind gusts up to 40 mph.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include Anniston, Oxford, Talladega, Sylacauga, Pell City, Clanton, Childersburg, Columbiana, Wilsonville, Goodwater, Rockford, Talladega Springs, Weogufka, Stewartville, Lincoln, Vincent, Thorsby, Harpersville, Munford, and Westover.

Recommended Action

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1000 AM CST for central, south central and east central Alabama.

Description

What: Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: A portion of central Alabama, including the following counties, Calhoun, Etowah, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Talladega.
When: Until 845 AM CST.
Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Additional Details: - At 537 AM CST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Gadsden, Trussville, Pell City, Jacksonville, Leeds, Moody, Rainbow City, Piedmont, Hokes Bluff, Springville, Odenville, Saks, Lincoln, Glencoe, Margaret, Argo, Weaver, Ashville, Riverside and Ragland.

Recommended Action

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
