Yellow Warning - Snow Squall

Issued at Sun 4:18 AM Jan. 18
Issued by: Environment and Climate Change Canada
Description

Snow squalls expected through Tuesday.

What:
Snowfall accumulations of 20 to 40 cm. Locally higher amounts possible.
Poor visibility in areas of heavy snow and blowing snow.

When:
Today through Tuesday.

Additional information:
A band of lake effect snow is affecting northern portions of the Bruce Peninsula this morning. This band may weaken during the day before lake effect snow strengthens again tonight.

Of particular concern is the potential for several hours of poor visibility due to blowing snow beginning Monday afternoon. Westerly winds gusting as high as 70 to 80 km/h may develop, although confidence in how strong the winds will be is low at this point. These winds should diminish somewhat Monday evening, although lake effect snow will continue into Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.

In addition, cold wind chills between minus 20 and minus 25 are expected.

###

Travel may be extremely hazardous. Visibility may be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Road closures are possible.
