Recommended Action
Take immediate cover if a thunderstorm approaches. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Don't drive through flooded roadways. Avoid low-lying areas. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Yellow Watch - Severe Thunderstorm

Description

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain.

What:
Wind gusts up to 110 km/h.
Hail up to 3 cm.
Heavy rain with local amounts up to 40 mm.
Slight risk of a tornado.

When:
This afternoon and evening.

Additional information:
Thunderstorms are expected to move into Ontario from Minnesota or Manitoba this afternoon.

Utility outages are possible. Fast-moving and rapidly rising water can sweep vehicles away and damage infrastructure.

Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
