Significant freezing rain expected this afternoon into early Monday morning. What: Freezing rain leading to icy surfaces. Ice accretion or build-up of 5 to 15 mm on some surfaces. When: This afternoon into early Monday morning. Additional information: Freezing rain is expected to begin this afternoon and continue overnight. The freezing rain may briefly change over to rain Monday morning as temperatures are expected to climb to just above the freezing mark. ### Roads and walkways may become icy and slippery. Prolonged utility outages are possible. Significant damage to property, including some buildings and trees, is possible due to the weight of ice. Description

Rain, heavy at times is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.

What:
Total rain and freezing rain amounts 20 to 40 mm

When:
Beginning early this afternoon and ending Monday morning.

Additional information:
Freezing rain will begin early this afternoon in the west end of Lake Ontario and spread east through the afternoon. Areas along the Lake Ontario shore are expected to receive mostly rain while other regions will gradually transition from freezing rain to rain this evening or overnight. Rain and freezing rain will be heavy at times through the afternoon and evening. The rain will ease Monday morning.

If possible, clear storm drains of snow and ice.

Localized flooding is possible. Some roads may become impassable.

Strong winds expected on Monday.

What:
Strong southwesterly wind gusts of 100 km/h.

When:
Beginning Monday morning and easing Monday evening.

Additional information.
Strong southwesterly winds are expected to develop Monday morning with the passage of a strong cold front. The winds will ease through Monday evening as they shift around to the northwest, but gusts of 60 km/h to 70 km/h are still likely. The strongest wind gusts are expected near Lake Ontario Monday afternoon.

Local utility outages are possible. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. Some property damage is possible.
