Description

Significant winter storm continues today and tonight.

What:
Freezing rain with 5 to 15 mm of ice accretion.
Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm.
Northwesterly wind gusts up to 70 km/h.
Reduced visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow.

When:
Continuing today and tonight.

Additional information:
Freezing rain may transition to periods of rain, drizzle or freezing drizzle early this morning as temperatures are expected to rise to near or just above the freezing mark. Any rain, drizzle or freezing drizzle will then change over to snow near noon as temperatures quickly fall. Reduced visibility from blowing snow is also expected this afternoon and evening.

Southwesterly winds are also expected to develop this morning with wind gusts of 50 or 60 km/h. The winds will become northwesterly this afternoon with gusts up to 70 km/h. Areas with significant ice build-up from freezing rain will be most vulnerable. Significant ice build-up from freezing rain is expected to lead to more impacts from these winds.

Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Road closures are possible. Local utility outages are likely. Property or tree damage is possible.
