Issued at Wed 3:16 PM Jan. 7
Issued by: Environment and Climate Change Canada
Description

A multi-day episode of very cold wind chills continues.

Hazardous wind chill values of minus 50 to -55 will continue tonight through to Friday night.

Ongoing impacts being felt within the communities will be further exacerbated by the continuation of extreme cold values near minus 50.

Temperatures and wind chill values have moderated slightly in a few communities, but will return Thursday.

###

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NTstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on X using #NTStorm.

Recommended Action

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks to warm up.
