Description

Very strong winds are expected.

Locations: northeastern and eastern Newfoundland, as well as the Avalon Peninsula.

Maximum wind gusts: southerly up to 100 km/h along parts of the coast shifting to southwest to westerly 100 to 110 km/h except 130 km/h along the coast.

Time span: Monday afternoon and Monday night.

Additional information:
Precipitation will begin as snow this evening and transition through a period of freezing rain and ice pellets to rain either overnight tonight or Monday morning.

Total Rainfall:
- (northeast coast) 5 to 10 mm.
- (east coast and Avalon Peninsula) 10 to 20 mm.

Total snowfall:
- (northeast coast) 5 to 10 cm.
- (east coast and Avalon Peninsula) 2 to 5 cm.

Freezing rain duration: 2 to 3 hours.

Remarks: Temperatures will fall quickly Monday afternoon and precipitation will transition back to snow for some areas. Walking and driving may become hazardous due to increasingly icy conditions.

High-sided vehicles could be overturned by the wind.
