Yellow Watch - Winter Storm

Issued at Fri 6:39 AM Dec. 26
Issued by: Environment and Climate Change Canada
Description

Significant snowfall and strong winds are likely this weekend.

Locations: the Labrador coast from Postville to L'Anse-au-Clair.

Potential snowfall: 15 to 30 cm, except 10 to 15 cm near the Strait of Belle Isle.

Potential wind gusts: northerly 80 to 100 km/h.

Time span: Saturday evening until Sunday morning.

Remarks: After the stormy weather exits later today, a brief respite is expected tonight and much of the day Saturday. However, a second storm system appears likely to bring another round of adverse weather to much of the Labrador coast beginning Saturday night. Snow, at times heavy, is expected in conjunction with strong winds, causing blowing snow and poor visibility. Over southern portions of the coast, the snow may also mix with or change to rain before ending.

At this time there is still uncertainty as to where exactly the highest snowfall amounts and strongest winds will occur. Forecast details will be refined in the coming days as the weather scenario becomes clearer.
