Description

A significant winter storm is expected.

Locations: Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity, Buchans and the interior, Grand Falls-Windsor and vicinity.

Total snowfall: 15 to 20 cm.

Total rainfall: 5 to 15 mm, for Channel-Port aux Basques

Total freezing rain: 5 to 10 mm.

Maximum wind gusts:

- Tonight and Monday morning: east to northeasterly 60 to 80 km/h.

- Monday afternoon and Monday night: westerly 100 to 120 km/h, strongest along the coast.

Time span: this evening until overnight Monday night.

Remarks: Snow, at times heavy, will begin tonight and transition to a mixture of ice pellets and freezing rain this evening in the Port aux Basques area, followed by rain overnight tonight. The same transitions will occur Monday morning in central Newfoundland.

Precipitation will change back to snow Monday morning in the southwest, and by Monday afternoon in central Newfoundland. The combination of snow and strong winds is likely to result in poor visibility blowing snow late Monday afternoon into Monday night.

Consider postponing non-essential travel and outdoor activities until conditions improve. Prepare for some disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities. Keep roofs clear to avoid the danger of heavy snow loads.
