Description
Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected. What: Freezing rain, heavy at times, with amounts possibly exceeding 5 mm. When: Beginning Wednesday evening and lasting into Thursday. Where: Central Manitoba. Remarks: A major spring storm will give rain, freezing rain and heavy snow to central Manitoba. The freezing rain will transition to rain or snow through the day on Thursday. The freezing rain warning may be upgraded to a winter storm warning if confidence increases in heavy snow developing following the freezing rain on Thursday. ### Travel will likely be hazardous and some routes will likely be impassable. Prolonged utility outages are likely. Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces. Orange Watch - Winter Storm

Description

A major winter storm is poised to impact northern Manitoba later this week.

Beginning overnight Wednesday evening, a wintery mix of precipitation will move into central regions of Manitoba and spread northeast through the day.

Areas from The Pas/Flin Flon east to the Ontario border will experience rain, freezing rain and periods of heavy snow on Wednesday Thursday and Friday before transitioning to snow Friday evening with as much as 5 to 10 mm of rain or freezing rain.

Further north, snow will begin throughout Thursday from south to north and continue steadily until Saturday afternoon. Total snowfalls in these areas is expected to be 30 to 50 cm.

Roads and walkways may be very difficult to navigate. Travel delays and/or cancellations are possible. Prolonged utility outages are possible.
