Yellow Warning - Arctic Outflow

Issued at Thu 4:23 PM Dec. 25
Issued by: Environment and Climate Change Canada
Description

Strong outflow winds and cold wind chill values continue.

When: Now through Saturday

Where: North Coast - inland including Terrace, and Kitimat.

Remark: An arctic airmass combined with strong outflow winds are producing low wind chill values near minus 20 . Air temperature are expected to range between minus 8 and minus 14. These temperatures combined with outflow winds, gusting at times to 50 km/h near Terrace and Kitimat, will significantly increase the risk of cold-related impacts throughout this period.

The very cold wind chill values are expected to continue until Saturday.

###

Frostbite and hypothermia can occur within minutes if adequate precautions are not taken when outdoors.

Arctic outflow warnings are issued when bitterly cold air flows from the interior to coastal communities and the outflow winds create wind chill values of -20 or less for 6 hours or more.
