Winter Weather Advisory

Issued at Wed 2:18 PM Jan. 14
Issued by: National Weather Service
Description

What: Lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
Where: Huron and Sanilac Counties.
When: Until 10 AM EST Thursday.
Impacts: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.
Additional Details: A lake effect snow band develops this evening and persists through Thursday morning. This lake effect snow band is expected to arrive initially across Huron County this evening before extending south into west or central Sanilac County. Highly localized snow rates and snow totals are expected underneath the lake effect snow band, with this band gradually pushing east through Thursday morning. Generally 3 to 6 inches of snowfall will be expected with lake effect snow, with a low end chance to exceed 6 inches of snowfall if and banding remains stationary. Additionally, winds gusting 30 to 40 mph will bring reductions to visibility to a half-mile or less and blowing snow under any heavy lake effect snow.

Recommended Action

Slow down and use caution while traveling. You can obtain the latest road conditions from the MDOT Michigan Drive Map. During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions.
