Description

What: Significant and widespread flooding caused by excessive rainfall will be likely, with potential debris flow impacts across recent burn scars.
Where: The following countie
S: Los Angeles. Ventura. Santa Barbara. San Luis Obispo.
When: Through Friday afternoon.
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Mud and debris flows will be possible across foothill and mountain areas, including recent burn scars.
Additional Details: - This prolonged strong Atmospheric River storm system will bring periods of heavy rain through late this week. Potential flooding impacts include the threat of significant and widespread urban roadway flooding, a high risk of major rock and mud slides, and rapid rises in creeks, streams, and rivers which will likely lead to swift water rescues. The recent burn scars will be at risk for debris flows, possibly damaging. These flooding impacts will likely lead to significant travel delays and road closures during this busy holiday travel period. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Recommended Action

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Description

At 520 AM PST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Point Mugu State Park, or near Camarillo, moving north at 30 mph.
Hazard: Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include Camarillo and Newbury Park.

Recommended Action

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

Description

What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: A portion of southwest California, including the following county, Southern Ventura.
When: Until 600 AM PST Thursday.
Impacts: Minor flooding.
Additional Details: - At 930 PM PST, Doppler radar indicated moderate to heavy showers developing over the advisory area. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Ventura, Camarillo, Moorpark, Santa Paula, Port Hueneme, Newbury Park, Point Mugu, Point Mugu State Park, Ventura Harbor, La Conchita, Rincon Point, Oak Park, El Rio, Somis, Naval Base Ventura County, Silver Strand Beach and Solimar Beach. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Recommended Action

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Description

What: South to southeast winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts 35 to 55 mph likely.
Where: A portion of southwest California.
When: Until 3 PM PST this afternoon.
Impacts: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. There will be the risk of downed trees, especially considering the very wet soils that will occur this week. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

High Surf Advisory

Description

What: Large breaking waves of 6 to 10 feet with dangerous rip currents.
Where: Ventura County Beaches, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches.
When: Until 11 AM PST Saturday.
Impacts: There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore.
Additional Details: Minor to potentially isolated moderate coastal flooding for south-facing beaches especially during high tides. This is expected to occur through Thursday due to strong southerly winds.

Recommended Action

Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.
