Description

The National Weather Service in Burlington has extended the Flash Flood Warning for Northeastern Washington County in central Vermont Northwestern Caledonia County in northeastern Vermont Southwestern Orleans County in northeastern Vermont Southeastern Lamoille County in northwestern Vermont Until midnight EDT tonight. At 956 PM EDT, emergency management reported flash flooding in Wolcott. East Hill Road is washed out near Young Road and is impassable. Additional thunderstorms capable of producing torrential rainfall are expected through midnight tonight. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.
Hazard: Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

Impact: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Wolcott, Elmore, Woodbury, Hardwick, Craftsbury, Greensboro, Morristown, Lake Elmore and Elmore State Park.

Recommended Action

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
