Recommended Action
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. If you are in a basement, be prepared to move to a higher floor.

Description

What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: A portion of northeast New Jersey, including the following counties, Bergen and Passaic.
When: Until 930 PM EDT.
Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.
Additional Details: - At 616 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Paterson, Wayne, Ridgewood, Hawthorne, Fair Lawn, Wyckoff, Oakland, Glen Rock, Franklin Lakes, Waldwick, North Haledon, Haledon, Midland Park, Allendale and Prospect Park. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
