THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 623 IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM CDT /10 PM MDT/ THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN NEBRASKA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 16 COUNTIES IN NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA BLAINE BROWN CHERRY KEYA PAHA THOMAS IN SOUTHWEST NEBRASKA CHASE FRONTIER HAYES KEITH LINCOLN PERKINS IN WEST CENTRAL NEBRASKA ARTHUR GRANT HOOKER LOGAN MCPHERSON THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF AINSWORTH, ARTHUR, BREWSTER, CHAMPION, CURTIS, DUNNING, ENDERS, EUSTIS, GRANT, HALSEY, HAYES CENTER, HYANNIS, IMPERIAL, MAYWOOD, MULLEN, NORTH PLATTE, OGALLALA, PAXTON, PURDUM, RINGGOLD, SPRINGVIEW, STAPLETON, THEDFORD, TRYON, VALENTINE, AND WAUNETA.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Description

At 601 PM CDT/501 PM MDT/, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles north of Seneca, or 12 miles northeast of Mullen, moving southeast at 15 mph.
Hazard: 60 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail.
Source: Trained weather spotters. At 540 PM CDT half dollar size hail was reported 11 miles north northeast of Mullen and at 600 PM CDT 54 mph wind gusts was reported 6 miles north of Seneca.
Impact: Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include Seneca and Giant Hill. This includes Highway 2 between mile markers 193 and 199.

Recommended Action

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. This is a dangerous storm, capable of producing large hail driven by severe winds! SEEK SHELTER NOW inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows! If you are caught outdoors, cover your head and neck.
