Description

RED FLAG WARNING FOR ALL OF WESTERN AND CENTRAL NORTH DAKOTA,
Including The James River Valley Today Through Friday: .Critical fire weather conditions will continue through Friday across western and central North Dakota, including the James River Valley. Westerly winds around 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 65 mph are expected in northwest and north central North Dakota through early this evening, with westerly winds around 30 to 40 mph and gusts to 55 mph in southwest and south central North Dakota. It will remain windy through tonight, with westerly winds increasing back to 25 to 35 mph and gusting to 50 mph Friday afternoon. Relative humidity will only recover to around 40 to 50 percent tonight and fall back to as low as 15 percent Friday afternoon. Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control.
Winds: West around 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.
Relative Humidity: As low as 15 percent.
Affected Area: Western and central North Dakota, including the James River Valley.
Impacts: Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control or suppress.

Recommended Action

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Blowing Dust Advisory

Description

What: West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.
Where: Much of northwest and north central North Dakota.
When: Until 7 PM CDT Friday.
Impacts: The high winds may damage roofs, small outbuildings and signs. Tree branches may be broken and lead to power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Additional Details: Gusty winds may return areas of blowing dust and reduced visibility on Friday.

What: For the Blowing Dust Advisory, visibility as low as one mile in blowing dust. For the High Wind Warning, west winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.
Where: Much of northwest and north central North Dakota.
When: For the Blowing Dust Advisory, until midnight CDT tonight. For the High Wind Warning, until 7 PM CDT Friday.
Impacts: Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility. The high winds may damage roofs, small outbuildings, and signs. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Recommended Action

Persons with respiratory problems should make preparations to stay indoors. Use extreme caution when traveling, and be prepared for sudden drops in visibility. Secure items that could be blown around.
