Flood Watch

Issued at Fri 10:55 AM Aug. 21
Issued by: National Weather Service
Description

What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Where: A portion of central North Carolina, including the following counties, Alamance, Chatham, Cumberland, Durham, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Orange, Randolph, Richmond, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Wake, Wayne and Wilson.
When: Through Saturday morning.
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Additional Details: - Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall are expected today and possibly into tonight and early Saturday. A stalled front over the region will combine with anomalously moist conditions and very unstable air, supporting thunderstorms with intense rainfall rates of up to 3 inches per hour. These rates will support a risk of flash flooding. Rainfall totals of 2 to locally 5 inches are likely in the watch area through early Saturday. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
