THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 408 IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM MDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN MONTANA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 10 COUNTIES IN NORTHEAST MONTANA DANIELS DAWSON GARFIELD MCCONE PRAIRIE RICHLAND ROOSEVELT SHERIDAN VALLEY WIBAUX THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF CIRCLE, CULBERTSON, FAIRVIEW, FORT PECK, GLASGOW, GLENDIVE, JORDAN, MEDICINE LAKE, OPHEIM, PLENTYWOOD, POPLAR, RICHEY, SCOBEY, SIDNEY, TERRY, WIBAUX, AND WOLF POINT.

Flood Advisory

Description

What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: Northwestern Valley County in northeastern Montana
When: Until 715 PM MDT.
Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. River or stream flows are elevated.
Additional Details: - At 410 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Thoeny. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Recommended Action

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Description

At 446 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Scobey, moving northeast at 30 mph.
Hazard: Ping pong ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: People and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include Scobey, Port Of Scobey, Port Of Whitetail, Madoc, Peerless, Four Buttes, and West Fork.

Recommended Action

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
