SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 405 REMAINS VALID UNTIL 7 PM MDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN MONTANA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 7 COUNTIES IN SOUTH CENTRAL MONTANA BIG HORN IN SOUTHEAST MONTANA CARTER CUSTER FALLON POWDER RIVER ROSEBUD TREASURE IN WYOMING THIS WATCH INCLUDES 1 COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL WYOMING SHERIDAN THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ASHLAND, BAKER, BROADUS, COLSTRIP, CROW AGENCY, EKALAKA, FORSYTH, HARDIN, HYSHAM, LAME DEER, MILES CITY, AND SHERIDAN.

Flash Flood Warning

Description

At 431 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Hazard: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Mainly rural areas of Central Big Horn County.

Recommended Action

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not drive on or attempt to cross flooded roads, find an alternate route. Roads and driveways may be damaged or washed out in places. Remain alert for flooding of creeks, streams, and normally dry coulees even in areas not receiving rainfall downstream of the burn area. These can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes even from distant rainfall upstream.

Description

At 446 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Busby, or 32 miles southwest of Colstrip, moving northeast at 25 mph.
Hazard: 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include Lame Deer, Busby, Muddy Cluster and Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation.

Recommended Action
