Description

The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Southern Itawamba County in northeastern Mississippi Southeastern Lee County in northeastern Mississippi Northeastern Monroe County in northeastern Mississippi Until 1245 AM CDT. At 1206 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over New Salem, or 9 miles south of Fulton, moving southeast at 45 mph.
Hazard: 60 mph wind gusts.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include Amory, Fulton, Mantachie, Smithville, Tremont, New Salem, Evergreen, Clay, Nettleton, Hatley, Gattman, Abney, Quincy, Turon, Wise Gap, Ballardsville, Sipsey Fork, Cardsville, Tilden, and Splunge. This includes Interstate 22 in Mississipppi between mile markers 98 and 117.

Recommended Action

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 400 AM CDT for northeastern Mississippi.

Description

What: Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
Where: A portion of North Mississippi, including the following counties, Chickasaw, Itawamba, Monroe and Pontotoc.
When: Until 200 AM CDT.
Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Additional Details: - At 1047 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Amory, Aberdeen, Fulton, Houston, Okolona, Mantachie, Smithville, Tremont, New Wren, Evergreen, Prairie, New Salem, Trebloc, Houlka, Fairview, Sandy Springs, Pyland, Clay, Nettleton and New Houlka. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
