The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening.
Affected Area: In Missouri, Fire Weather Zones 007, 015, 016 and 023.
Timing: For the first Red Flag Warning, until 8 PM CDT this evening. For the second Red Flag Warning, from noon to 8 PM CDT Saturday.
Impacts: Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
Wind: Northerly sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts around 25 mph on Friday. Southerly sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts around 25 mph on Saturday.
Humidity: Lowest afternoon and evening humidity of 15 to 25 percent Friday and Saturday.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Freeze Warning
What: Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 22 expected.
Where: Portions of east central and northeast Kansas and central, north central, northeast, northwest, and west central Missouri.
When: From 1 AM to 9 AM CDT Saturday.
Impacts: Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
