Description

The National Weather Service in New Orleans has extended the Flash Flood Warning for Northern Tangipahoa Parish in southeastern Louisiana Washington Parish in southeastern Louisiana Northern Pearl River County in southern Mississippi Southeastern Walthall County in southern Mississippi Until 445 PM CDT. At 236 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1.5 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Some roads in Washington Parish have been flooded.
Hazard: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

Impact: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Franklinton, Amite, Amite City, Varnado, Roseland, Dexter, Mount Herman, Wilmer and Angie.

Recommended Action

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
