THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 610 IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN ILLINOIS THIS WATCH INCLUDES 9 COUNTIES IN NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS BUREAU PUTNAM IN NORTHWEST ILLINOIS CARROLL HENRY IL JO DAVIESS MERCER ROCK ISLAND STEPHENSON WHITESIDE IN IOWA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 4 COUNTIES IN EAST CENTRAL IOWA CLINTON JACKSON SCOTT IN NORTHEAST IOWA DUBUQUE THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ALEDO, BETTENDORF, CLINTON, CREDIT ISLAND, DAVENPORT, DUBUQUE, FREEPORT, GALENA, GENESEO, HENNEPIN, MAQUOKETA, MOLINE, MOUNT CARROLL, PRINCETON, ROCK ISLAND, AND STERLING.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Description

At 550 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over South Gary Owen, or 15 miles northwest of Maquoketa, moving southeast at 20 mph.
Hazard: 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
Source: Radar indicated.
Impact: Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include Zwingle, Garry Owen, Otter Creek, Crab Town, South Gary Owen, and Ironhills.

Recommended Action

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. To report severe weather contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will send your report to the National Weather Service office in the Quad Cities. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
