Yellow Warning - Winter Storm
A significant winter storm is expected.
Locations: Bay St. George, Corner Brook and vicinity, and the Great Northern Peninsula.
Total snowfall: 20 to 40 cm.
Maximum wind gusts:
- Tonight and Monday: east to northeasterly 80 to 110 km/h, with gusts to 120 km/h in areas prone to enhanced easterlies.
- Monday night: north to northwesterly 90 to 120 km/h.
Time span: this evening or overnight tonight until early Tuesday morning.
Remarks: The combination of snow and strong winds is likely to result in blizzard-like conditions with poor visibility beginning overnight tonight for most areas. The onset of blizzard-like conditions will be delayed until Monday afternoon for Bay St. George as precipitation will change to ice pellets and freezing rain overnight tonight and Monday morning. Visibility is likely to be at its worst Monday night, as the strongest winds will coincide with further snowfall and falling temperatures.
Consider modifying any travel plans; if travel is necessary, allow extra time to reach your destination.
Local enhancement in easterly flow typically occurs in the vicinities of Cape St. George, Port au Port Bay, the outer Bay of Islands, Trout River Bay, Bonne Bay, Western Brook Pond, St. Paul's Bay, Parson's Pond River, and St. John Bay.
