Heat Advisory
What: For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 108 expected. For the Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 102 expected.
Where: A portion of central Pennsylvania.
When: For the Extreme Heat Warning, from noon Wednesday to 8 PM EDT Friday. For the Heat Advisory, from 8 PM Friday to 8 PM EDT Saturday.
Impacts: Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
Additional Details: High temperatures will exceed 100 degrees in many places Wednesday through Friday with even higher heat index values expected. Temperatures will be a few degrees lower on Saturday, but heat risks will continue.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Review heat safety and preparedness information at weather.gov/safety/heat. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Power outages are possible during periods of extended heat as the extra demand for electricity can tax the power grid. Be prepared for a possible power outage.
Air Quality Alert
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert for Dauphin, Cumberland, Lebanon, Lancaster, and York Counties until midnight EDT tonight. A Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
