Description

What: Heavy lake effect snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 9 inches possible. Northwest Winds could gust between 35 and 40 mph at times, especially near Lake Michigan. Once snow accumulates, this could lead to blowing and drifting snow, especially on E-W oriented roads.
Where: Portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.
When: From Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon.
Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes, and the Thursday morning commute.

Recommended Action

Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation. Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded. During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions.
