Description

A significant winter storm continues.

Locations: western Newfoundland from Bay St. George to Corner Brook and the Great Northern Peninsula.

Total snowfall: 20 to 40 cm, with locally higher amounts possible over higher terrain.

Maximum wind gusts (today): east to northeasterly 80 to 100 km/h, with gusts to 120 km/h along the Strait.
Maximum wind gusts (tonight): north to northwesterly 90 to 120 km/h.

Time span: continuing until early Tuesday morning.

Remarks: The combination of snow and strong winds is likely to result in blizzard-like conditions with poor visibility later this afternoon and tonight. Visibility is likely to be at its worst tonight, as the strongest winds will coincide with further snowfall and falling temperatures.
