Why are beetles living inside my roses?

As a first time gardener, I was shocked to see clusters of beetles living inside my roses! Where did they come from? And why is this happening?
Turns out, these bugs are Japanese beetles — an invasive species!
The bug first came to Canada in 1939. Since then, it's travelled right across the country, and many Canadians are still having a tough time controlling the population through the summer.
