What you need to know about ticks this summer in B.C.

Friday, June 14th 2019, 5:32 pm - Weather Network reporter Mia Gordon had the chance to speak with the BC Centre for Disease Control on ticks this season. Here are some important things to keep in mind this summer while in British Columbia.

Warmer weather has arrived across parts of British Columbia, but before you head outdoors, it's important to keep your eyes open for potentially harmful ticks.

While there are several different kinds of ticks across the province, there are only two that carry Lyme disease, which means only about 1 in every 200 ticks carry the disease. While that number doesn't sound too alarming, health officials are reminding residents to play it safe when heading outdoors. Details on how to protect yourself this summer, in the video above.
